The multi-talented Alexander Cowings brought together several forms of performance in his explosive show at the Producer’s Club in midtown Manhattan. Joined by the dancer Calvin Booker, the two performed the seldom-seen art of hip hop tap, championed by Savion Glover in the 1990’s with the hit show “Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk.” Cowings crooned a number of original R&B diddies, backed by a live band of drums, electric guitar, and stand-up bass, marking intervals in the music with furious bursts of tap dancing. The evening ended with a powerful performance by Cowings’s mother Coach Bags Factory Outlet, Kim Kalesti, and an open tap jam.
